Just For Kids

ALL ITEMS WILL BE BAR CODED.  DO NOT HANDWRITE ANY TAGS.

Please review this site carefully and read the FAQ page thoroughly!

Printing Tags:

You must use white standard cardstock to print your tags.  No plain paper tags accepted!

Print fully bar-coded, easy to read tags on your home computer, at your convenience

Print all your tags at once, or just a select group of tags. You can re-print tags anytime

This is how your tag will look when you print it out.  You will print a whole sheet full then cut them apart.

Here are some tips to help ensure you print your tags in such a way that the barcode will scan easily:

  • Don't print too dark - it is better to print a little light than too dark. Don't print on the "High Quality" setting, print on the normal setting. This is especially true for inkjet printers. Some cardstock papers can "soak up" the ink when it is sprayed too dark, causing the edges of the barcode to be fuzzy and not scan. The edges of a barcode need to be crisp.

  • Align your print cartridges - printer cartridges in inkjet printers can get out of alignment, especially when you change cartridges. This can cause the edge of the barcode not to be clean and straight. There should be a utility that came with your printer software that allows you to align the print cartridges.

  • Don't use designer cardstock - Designer cardstock that is "fiberous" can soak up ink from an inkjet and cause the edges of a barcode to be fuzzy. Use a standard dense cardstock. Avoid cardstock with a "slick" surface, as it can cause ink to smudge.

  • At Receiving, after checking over your items, we will scan each of your items tags into the computers inventory database to show that we have received them.  Your tags must scan!  This is the first time for us to use this system, so please be patient and we will work out any difficulties that come up.

  • Every item must have a tag attached unless multiple items are sold as a set.

Attach your tag to the garment with a safety pin as indicated in the tag example for clothing.  You will use packing tape for other items as indicated below.

So, you will:

  1. Sign up as a consignor.

  2. Sort your items by sex/size, hang garments on wire hangers

  3. Use the Consignor Log-in to sign into your account and enter your items

  4. Print your tags and attach them to your items

  5. Bring your things to Just For Kids during Receiving hours on the when/where page!

Use safety pin at the top of the tag

CLOTHING:

We accept Spring/Summer clothing at the Spring Sale and Fall/Winter clothing at the Fall Sale.  Please see FAQ's if you have questions.

The better your item looks, the better it will sell. Please rewash any items you have had in storage and press anything that needs it. Check your clothing items for spots under a fluorescent light and in direct sunlight. We have fluorescent lighting in the store and it picks up all spots. Remember to check all hems, seams, buttons and zippers. Sometimes it is difficult to see imperfections in your own clothes. Work with a friend and check each other’s items!

*** Before bringing your items to Receiving, your clothing items must be separated by sex/size. Separate the boys from the girls clothes, then separate them by size. It is easier to do this before you enter your items, but since you are printing tags at home, you can do it after tagging if needed ***

For example: all your size 6 girl clothes must be together, sz 8 girl clothes, boys size 2T.  After entering all items, tie each sex/size off separately. Tie them with twist ties or string. This will dramatically reduce the time you spend at Receiving.

**Items will not be accepted unless
prepared, separated and bundled properly.

HANGERS:

Use WIRE hangers, with the hanger’s open side facing left (see example).

NO plastic or plastic coated wire hangers!

(White or blue painted hangers from the drycleaners are OK, but if you can take a utility knife and scrape plastic off, they are NOT allowed)

But my baby clothes won’t fit on a wire hanger!?

Yes they will. The juvenile hangers work well for the smallest infant clothes (Preemies, 0-3 mos). Sizes other than that will fit on a regular hanger. Take the hanger up through the bottom of the garment and put in one sleeve at a time. The item will look nicer on the hanger and the nicer it looks the better it will sell. Also, if you are using uniform service hangers, the pant hangers are the same as juvenile sized hangers. If you feel your garment will not fit on the hanger, you may pin the item to the top bar of the hanger at the shoulder of the garment (1 pin in each shoulder).

Pants/skirts: Using a safety pin for each side, pin pants/skirt at the top of waistband to the top bar of the hanger. Place the safety pins close enough together so the garment will not slide down to the bottom bar of the hanger. Your item will look neater and sell better.

For 2-piece outfits: place shirt on hanger then safety pin pants/skirt to back of the shirt at the shoulders with the safety pin going around hanger bar for support.

Do not hang the second item under the first (like folding it over the bar of the hanger). Customers will either not see it, or they will take it off to look at it and it will end up on the floor. If items are prepared as described above, your sets will stay together and there will be no opportunity for customers to separate your items.

Pin tag to the Right (as you are looking at the item) side of the garment using medium or large safety pins (NO STRAIGHT PINS & NO tiny pins).

Tagging gun may be used (Be careful not to mar the appearance of the item - if you make a hole in your item we cannot accept it.)

Onesies: It is best to sell a few together. Hang the first one then take 1 or 2 more and pin them to the back of the first one. Use a safety pin through the shoulders. One pin on each side. Pin them to the top bar of the hanger for support.

Shoes: LIMIT OF 6 OF YOUR BEST SHOES

Due to the large number of consignors, we must ask you to bring only 6 pairs of your BEST CLEAN dress shoes, sandals and sneakers*.

*Clean Sport shoes (cleats), dance shoes and house slippers do not count in this total.

Mark the bottom of each shoe with your consignor ID# on a piece of masking tape.

If shoes will fit, place in a zip lock bag and tape the tag to the inside of the bag or use a safety pin to attach to the shoes.  If shoes have laces, safety pin the tag to the laces or around the straps. If shoes are slip-ons, tape the tag securely to the bottom of one of the shoes using clear packing tape.

Bedding: If you have the original package, you may use it. Otherwise, fold sheets over a hanger and pin (so they don’t slide off). Fold bumper pads into thirds and fold over hanger. If you are selling a set, tag each item as "bedding set, 1 of 5", "2 of 5", etc so we know how many pieces you have together. When we check you in at Receiving, we can help you figure it out. You will only need one tag for the entire set. Fold receiving blanket over hangers as well.

Bibs, bottles and rattles: Don’t mix them, but use zip lock bags to package several of same type of items together. Tape your tag inside of the bag using clear packing tape. Face the tag outward so shoppers can see it and we can scan it.

Toys: Use clear packing tape or safety pins to attach the tag (same size as for clothing) to the item. Use zip lock bags for smaller pieces that go with large toys. Secure your bag very well with packing tape. Place your consignor ID# on a piece of masking tape and place it on all bags and on the bottom of all toys. Include batteries, if required, for the toy to work.

·        To replace a missing part of a toy or piece of baby equipment, call the company (phone # is sometimes printed somewhere on the item) or check out their website.  This always helps an older item look new again!  Here is a list of some of the 800 numbers and website for ordering parts:

  • Fisher Price – (800) 432-5437

http://www.fisherprice.com

  • Little Tikes – (800) 321-0183

http://www.littletikes.com

  • Power Wheels – (800) 348-0751

http://www.fisher-price.com/us/powerwheels

Strollers, high chairs, cribs, exersaucers, etc.: Use clear packing tape or safety pins to attach the tag (same size as for clothing) to the item. Be sure all items are very clean, check the straps too. Most items have removable covers and straps that can be scrubbed in the bathtub or washing machine. Write your consignor ID# on a piece of masking tape and place it on the bottom of all your pieces. In case your tag would come off, we would be able to identify you as the owner and look up the price.

Car Seats: Car seats/booster seats must have been manufactured in the last 5 years, not been subject to recall and never have been in an accident. For Liability reasons, consignors will be asked to sign a "good faith" statement attesting to this.  All seat covers must have been washed and all straps and other areas cleaned. Safety pin your tag onto the cloth cover. Write your consignor ID# on a piece of masking tape and place it on the bottom of all your pieces.

Books: Sets may be placed in ziploc bags. If selling several books together (that aren’t an official set) please group according to reading level. After applying your barcode at Receiving, you may tape your tag to the inside of the bag and then tape your bag shut. If selling single books, you may tape your tag to the inside back cover with clear packing tape. We don’t remove the tape at checkout; we only score it enough to remove the tag. Be sure your books are clean and in like-new condition. All coloring and activity books must never have been written in!

Videos/DVD's: Please rewind and double-check your videos to make sure they are in working order. Also, be sure the correct movie is placed in the corresponding box/case. Tape your tag to the box using clear packing tape. Do NOT tape the box shut.  After we check your videos, you can tape them shut at Receiving. As with books, if it is necessary to remove the tag at checkout, we lightly score the tape and remove the tag.

Puzzles and games: For board puzzles, wrap plastic-wrap tightly around the puzzle to keep the pieces from falling out then tape your tag to the outside. For boxed puzzles, please count your pieces, but DO NOT tape your box shut. Check your game pieces and make sure all are accounted for. Please DO NOT tape your game boxes shut.  Tape your tag to the top of the box.  We will tape them shut after checking them in.

Please be considerate and don’t bring anything that is incomplete.

Stuffed Animals/Characters: Limit of 5 of your BEST stuffed animals or characters. The only stuffed animals that sell well are the most popular movie/cartoon characters. Please limit your selections to these. Please be sure they are clean. Check the tag, but most can be placed in a pillowcase and washed in your washing machine. This limit does not include popular characters that are battery operated.  Use a safety pin to attach your tag.

Batteries Required: If a customer tries a toy, baby monitor or other accessory, and it doesn’t work, they won’t buy it. They don’t want to take a chance that the item is actually broken. We require you to have batteries in place when you bring your items to receiving so you can demonstrate that your item is in good working order. If you are placing brand new batteries in the item, write at the top of your tag "New batteries included" and reflect the cost of the batteries in your price.

Misc:  If you have trouble packaging a bulky or unusual item, we will help you with it when you come to Receiving.

We will accept opened computer software & games!
