Volunteering to Work at Just For Kids Want to be one of the first to shop? It’s easy! It’s fun! Just volunteer to work at least 12 hours, Operating the store with volunteers keeps costs down and that enables participants to receive a higher percentage from the sale of their (your) items. Since the store is staffed by volunteers, it is very important for you to be at the store during the times you signed up for. Please have a back-up sitter, or call another worker to sub for you in case of a last minute emergency. If you need to reschedule a time, you must give 24 hrs notice. I am depending on you to be dependable! This is an opportunity for you to do something new, meet new people or catch up with friends you made last season. We appreciate your time and want you to have fun while you are working! HOURS AVAILABLE TO WORK Two preview sales are available to consignors that volunteer to work at least 12 hours or more. Two (2) of those hours must be in SORT on the last day the store is open. The other hours may be scheduled by you based on availability. Sign up early for best selection of time. We cannot guarantee availability. If none of the available times will work for you, please email or call, and we can work something out. We would like volunteers (especially prior volunteers) to work a portion of his or her hours during Receiving (but not required). This gives us extra hands to handle all the merchandise coming in and gives you a great preview of what to expect when you come to shop at the Worker Preview Sale! If you cannot work at least 12 hours, but could work 8(2 of those in Sort), then you are eligible to shop at the 2nd Worker Preview Sale (the 1/2 off sale). SPECIAL NOTE FOR DADS: We LOVE for Dads to volunteer! We need muscle to help unload fixtures, set up shelving & clothing racks prior to and during Receiving & during the last weekend when we take everything down again. We also value Dad’s help on the Saturdays we are open as a security presence and to help carry items to cars for customers (hopefully some of your items!). We have had occasions where the Dad works all the hours and the mom comes to the worker sale, and Mom/Dads have split the hours and mom does the shopping. But remember that if you want to shop together, you must each work 12 hrs. ‘Don’t forget, 2 of your hours will be worked during Sort (Sat. May 19, 2:30-4:30pm). These will be automatically scheduled for you. Sign up for at least 10 more hours from the following available shifts. If there is a partial shift or different time combo you can work, email Melissa at justforkids@hughes.net. Just for Kids cannot operate without volunteers! If you cannot work a shift you signed up for, please give 24 hrs notice or find someone else to work for you.’ You can sign up on-line by completing our Sign Up to Work form! SORT Sort: The last day we are open to the public.Sort is required for all workers. This is one of the most important times you will work. Sort is so critical because this is the time in which we sort all the items brought in, by number, back to the owner so they can be picked up the following Monday on Pick-up & Pay Day. It takes everyone working together to get it done. There will be a group meeting at the beginning of Sort to explain the process. Please be on time! If you do not show up for sort, you will not be allowed to work again. SHOPPING All volunteers signed up to work at least 12 hours get to shop at 2 Preview Sales! Volunteer Preview SalesSee the Preview Sales page for details!(1/2 off everything without a red dot)! These special times are set aside for YOU ONLY! YOU are the only one allowed into the store to shop. NO EXCEPTIONS! No other adult may accompany you into the store. If your spouse, mother, sister, friend, great-aunt, neighbor, etc. wants to come in with you, they must have brought 15 items to sell and volunteered to work 12 hrs as well. Children over age 8 allowed if they stay by your side. Babies in strollers are OK. Just a few more notes: Experience: I want to utilize your talents! If you have retail experience, or are talented in areas such as organizing & setting up displays, please let me know. Just Ask! Have a question? There is usually a good explanation for everything we are doing at the store. You will never know why we are doing things the way we do unless you ask! We want you to be informed. Suggestions: I am always looking for ways to improve the store. If you have an idea, please share it! You can write it on the suggestion/comment sheet located on the clipboard behind the sign-in sheet. Remember: We are all working together towards a common goal – selling the merchandise of the consignors. Please be helpful & courteous (but not intrusive) to our customers. Please be fair to other participants & DO NOT push your own items to customers. You can sign up on-line by completing our Sign Up to Work form! |
