To accommodate as many as possible, all shifts available are in 4 hr blocks (except for sort).  Sign up early for the best selection! 

Snack, Supplies and Advertising

We are in need of snacks/meals for our Volunteers that work in the store as well as supplies we use during Receiving & during the sale.

You can earn a “Snack/Advertising” volunteer pass by donating these items or by passing out flyers and yard signs!  See available work shifts for available needs.  Remember, fulfilling one of these requests is worth a “Snack/Advertising” volunteer pass! There is a limit of 1 pass per person. If you wish to shop earlier than 5:30, you need to sign up to volunteer in the store.

Why Should I Volunteer?

      Operating the store with volunteers keeps costs down and that enables participants to receive a higher percentage from the sale of their (your) items

OK, now I want to volunteer, when do I work and what do I need to know?

• You do not need to be a participant in this sale to volunteer!

• Follow the “Worker Registration” link below. Sign up early for the best selection of times.

• If you are working more than 4 hrs, please sign up for at least 1 shift during Receiving weekend.  This gives us extra hands to handle all the merchandise coming in and gives you a great preview of what to expect when you come to shop at the Volunteer Preview Sale!

• If there is a partial shift or different time combo you can work, email Melissa at justforkids@hughes.net.

• Bring a light snack if working a long shift. Meals may/may not be provided, drinks are.

• Bring your lunch or a light snack if working over a mealtime.

• When you come into the store to volunteer, sign in and pick up a nametag.

• Please do not bring your children with you when you are scheduled to volunteer your time

• Please have a back-up sitter, or call another worker to sub for you in case of a last minute emergency.

       SPECIAL NOTE FOR DADS: We LOVE for Dads to volunteer!  We need muscle to help unload fixtures, set up shelving & clothing racks prior to and during Receiving & during the last weekend when we take everything down again. We also value Dad’s help on the Open to the Public days as a security presence (“Security” T-Shirt provided!) and to help carry items to cars for customers (hopefully some of your items!). We have had occasions where the Dad works all the hours and the mom comes to the worker sale, and Mom/Dads have split the hours and mom does the shopping.

The store is staffed by volunteers so it is very important for you to be at the store during the times you signed up for.

If you need to reschedule a time, you must give 24 hrs notice.   I am depending on you to be dependable!

Sort – What is it and why is it so important?

• Sort is from 4:30pm -6:30pm on the last day we are open to the public. It starts after the store closes for the day.

• This is a critical time.  We sort all the items left after the sale, by ID number, back to the owner so they can be picked up the following day.

• Sort is required for all volunteers because it takes everyone working together to get it done!

• This is one of the most important times you will work!

• Sort works very well and goes very fast when all volunteers are present and we can start on time.

• There will be a brief meeting with new volunteers to explain the process and get assigned to a team.

• If you sign up for (2) 4 hr. shifts and do not show up for SORT (death excluded!), you will not be able to volunteer again

• These special times are set aside for YOU ONLY!

• YOU are the only one allowed into the store to shop. NO EXCEPTIONS!

• No other adult may accompany you into the store. Children over age 8 allowed if they stay by your side. Babies in strollers are OK for the Volunteer Preview sale only.  Strollers will not be allowed at the Consignor Preview sale later that evening.
